abstract

background: it has been stated that the bone allografts from different tissue banks may lead to various amount of bone induction, so the aim of this study was to evaluate bone regeneration of three demineralized allografts both histologically and histomorphometrically in rabbits calvaria bone defects. materials and methods: in this double-blind randomized experimental animal study, 32 critical size defects (11-mm diameter) in the calvaria of 16 male new zealand white rabbits were randomly fi lled with three demineralized freeze-dried bone allografts (dbm, cenobone, dembone), while the nongrafted defect was regarded as control group. after 6 and 12 weeks of healing, the experimental animals were euthanized for specimen preparation. after histological evaluation, histomorphometric analysis was performed to quantify new bone formation and remained graft particles. the data were analyzed by one-way anova with tukey’s ad-hoc test and t -test. ( p < 0.05 was considered to be statistically signifi cant). results: mean percentage of bone formation increased between two healing time, but it was not statistically signifi cant in all groups except dbm which the bone formation signifi cantly decreased ( p = 0.04). there were not statistically signifi cant differences between three allografts in remained particles and bone formation in both healing times and they could not induce signifi cantly more bone formation than control group. conclusion: both test and control groups resulted in successful new bone formation. no difference was noted in bone formation and remained particles between three commercial bone allografts. further studies in this issue may be needed. key words: bone regeneration, demineralized freeze-dried bone allografts, osteoinduction, tissue bank

The effect of freeze-dried bone allograft and partially demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft on regeneration of rabbit calvarial bone defects: A Histological and histomorphometric study

Background and Aims: Reconstruction of osseous defects is one of the ideal goals of periodontal treatments and dental implant therapy. Different biomaterials have been used for this purpose and many studies have tried to compare and introduce the best ones. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of PDFDB (Partially Demineralized Freeze-Dried Bone Graft) and FDBA (Freeze Dried Bone Allog...

effects of two types of anorganic bovine bone on bone regeneration: a histological and histomorphometric study of rabbit calvaria.

the purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of two types of bone substitutes, bio-oss and nuoss, for repair of bone defects.this study was performed on the calvaria of 14 new zealand rabbits. the 6mm critical size defect (csd) models of bone regeneration were used. three csds were created in each surgical site. the first defect was filled with nuoss, the second one with bio-oss and t...

Demineralized Freeze-Dried Bovine Cortical Bone: Its Potential for Guided Bone Regeneration Membrane

BACKGROUND Bovine pericardium collagen membrane (BPCM) had been widely used in guided bone regeneration (GBR) whose manufacturing process usually required chemical cross-linking to prolong its biodegradation. However, cross-linking of collagen fibrils was associated with poorer tissue integration and delayed vascular invasion. OBJECTIVE This study evaluated the potential of bovine cortical bo...

Histomorphometric Comparison of 2 types of FDBA and DFDBA bone powders manufactured by Faravardehaye Peyvandi Iran Company in treatment of defects in rabbit calvaria bone

Abstract Background and Aim: Allografts are a group of grafting materials in two types of DFDBAs and FDBAs with various applications in restoration of osseous defects. Considering high price of foreign brands of these materials, we decided to launch a study and compare 2 types of FDBA and DFDBA osseous powders manufactured by Faravardehaye Peyvandi Iran Company and their application in restora...

Bone-to-Implant Contact and New Bone Formation Within Human Freeze-Dried Bone Blocks Grafted Over Rabbit Calvaria.

PURPOSE To assess the extent of osseointegration with rough-surface implants and new bone formation (NBF) within human freeze-dried bone blocks (h-FDB) grafted over rabbit calvaria. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 18 rectangular h-FDB blocks were stabilized bilaterally to the calvaria of nine New Zealand rabbits by two mini titanium screws each. A total of 18 rough-surface implants (5.0 × 6....
